EMERGENCY BITTER / BLOODLOSS at the Fighting Cocks

EMERGENCY BITTER / BLOODLOSS Saturday 22nd February 2014 at the Fighting Cocks, Kingston

Arriving in time to catch most of Bloodloss’s set I was impressed to see yet another decent band that I’d never heard of before tonight. They play a fast and abrasive hardcore style, all sub metallic crashing riffs and angry vocals. Good but nothing too original. Youtube is awash with similar bands. I could have done without the “I can’t hear you Kingston” stuff too – this is the Fighting Cocks not Wembley stadium.

Emergency Bitter’s debut album is entitled Ciderfootballpunkrock – and that’s pretty much what you get with them. Having enjoyed seeing them as a support act I was curious to see how they’d do further up the bill. I think they’d undergone some line up changes prior to the gig and at times it was a little bit off the mark but to be honest that only added to the entertainment value and you could see enough to know that they’ll sort that out over time. Vocalist Ferret is a born entertainer and with a wealth of amusing songs even when they’re making a serious point (Fuck The BNP) they’re good value for money on any gig line up. With time they may add a bit more complexity / technical ability to some of their songs but even as it is right now I’m more than happy.
