The Life Guards Regiment

Life Guards Regiment

The Life Guards were initially formed around 1660 – the time of the return of King Charles II from his enforced exile in Europe. They have seen service all over the world including in recent times periods in Northern Ireland and the Gulf. The regiment now comprises of two reconnaissance squadrons based at Windsor and one London based (Hyde Park) squadron at Hyde Park who cover ceremonial duties such as this guard in Downing Street.
