Banksy Graffiti Hostility and Jubilee street party
On 31 May 2002 Banksy threw an illicit street party beside the Thames in Southwark. It had a version of Banksy’s ‘Deride and Conquer’ portrait of the Queen as its centre piece. Elsewhere were Guardsmen with their trousers down, an authorised graffiti area and a full scale version of Take Me To Your Dealer.A little while later some of the art remained in place, albeit much of it obscured by construction works.

“By Order of the National Highways Agency THIS WALL IS A DESIGNATED GRAFFITI AREA”
Sure, right. It’s great how so many have taken this spoof message at it’s word. Which is kind of the point.

The full text reads “this revolution is for display purposes only”. While maybe I got the meaning behind the image and the text some bemused workmen nearby clearly didn’t, just staring at me taking this picture while getting their latest briefing on world events from the Daily Sport.
