Banksy – Old Street Bridge works

In the early 2000’s Banksy repeatedly hit the Old Street railway bridge . The structure carries the new Overground lines, near the junction of Kingsland Road / Shoreditch High Street.

The bridge has been the site of both artworks and slogans, sometimes seeing the two combined. It’s a high profile spot with a heavy traffic flow from lorries, to cars to cyclists and pedestrians. Ideal for people to see your work.

Circa 2002 Banks had given the bridge the slogan Have A Nice Day surrounded by a line of gun toting riot cops. This image was later reworked into an iconic early Banksy print.

Abandon Hope (9am – 5pm) was a later work and would have been seen each day by thousands of commuters making their way to and from work It sums up many peoples attitude to their mundane working life. The slogan was again on paper and pasted up over the previous versions. Only remnants of the previously mentioned cops remained by this point in 2006.
