Alex Chinneck – ‘A Week at the Knees’
Alex Chinneck ‘A Week At The Knees’ installation in Charterhouse Square as part of Clerkenwell Design Week 2025.
First things first, if you decide to visit this really rather wonderful artwork, please take not of the garden opening times. I visited on a bank holiday Monday when the gates were firmly locked so all of the photos here were taken with a long lens peering over the fence. This is not the best way to appreciate art!
Visiting when the park is open will allow you to walk under the slumped facade which comprises of 7000 real bricks along with specially designed doors and fittings. The playful curve of the guttering.is a real delight.

The installation takes on the form of someone sitting on the grass, their knees drawn up. It gives the work a more human form that blends in with the surroundings just as much as its Georgian brickwork mirrors nearby buildings.

And while we’re on the subject of Alex Chinneck’s art here’s couple of earlier pieces from London.
