The Art of Banksy – A Visual Protest book
The Art of Banksy – A Visual Protest book edited by Gianni Mercurio, published in 2018 (Italian) and 2020 (English) by Prestel. Full colour hardback, 223 pages. ISBN 978-7913-8606-S
What’s it about? A large format, well illustrated but unathorised look at some of Banksy’s most recognised works that seeks to explain his inspiration and methods
Unique Selling Point: A great deal of this book covers the artists ‘off street’ work including prints, record covers and specific canvases – much of which isn’t documented in other books.
Not so great: Covering both street work and off street work in one volume it doesn’t end up being definitive about either. Outside of Wall and Piece, however, it is probably the best ‘best of’ book that covers a wide range of his output.
Who’s It For? Those who want to look at the reasons behind Banksy’s art and his methods in more detail, particularly his prints and multiples
