Banksy Cash Machine Grab – Roseberry Aenue

The cash machine appeared in 2005 complete with an installation of Banksy’s Di-faced tenners spewing out of the machine ( an image of this appears in Banksy’s Wall and Piece). Unsurprisingly it wasn’t long before these had been removed and the artwork was updated to reveal a robotic arm coming out of the machine and lifting up a girl off the ground with its pincer like arm.

At some point later parts of the image were covered over with what looked like a creamy coloured paint applied with a roller. Around this time the damaged work had become a bit of a celebrity – there was even a Bagel shop opened right next door called the ‘Banksy Bagel Bar’. Perspex was added to protect what was left of the piece from further damage and over time this has discoloured and deteriorated to the point where there is really nothing left to see. It’s still there though underneath all of the layers of paint and maybe one day it will resurface again.
