The decision comes through and the crowd goes wild – and for a change I put my camera away and just enjoy the euphoria. This despite the fact that we’re now going to spend 2.5 billion pounds on an event where people only watch the race with the eight drug addicts running 100m!

 

Tony Blair gets in on the act and finds himself on the receiving end of a surprisingly loud cheer from the German, American and Japanese tourists who had assembled in Trafalgar Square to hear the result.
