Cheltenham Paint Festival 2022

First time for me visiting Cheltenham Paint Festival but it’s one that’s been running since 2017. With many of the pieces staying in situ over time it has turned Cheltenham into an open gallery of creativity with unexpected art around every corner. I visited a few days after the 2022 incarnation of the festival which ran on July 30th and 31st.

For me the standout piece of this year’s festival was this piece by Dice 67 of Jaz Coleman, vocalist of Killing Joke. Coleman is from Cheltenham and this piece references his first album with Killing Joke reproducing it’s cover art in the bottom left. There are plenty of other details too to find with nods to his work as a composer and a his Doctorate of Music.

Dice 67 is the organisational force behind Cheltenham Paint Festival and contributes some of the pieces himself such as this one of his daughter looming large over a car park.

  • Nice article! Smak Town Detail is actually me ‘SoK’ though, I mean Smak is good, but he’s not that good!
