Banksy Exit Through The Gift Shop – Tube advertising

Banksy – Exit Through The Gift Shop Tube poster, Russell Square Station

The release of Exit Through The Gift Shop resulted in paid for adverts appearing on Tube Stations throughout London. It was a move that provoked a fair amount of controversy because of the perception that Banksy was against all advertising. Maybe it is hypocritical but I think the actual stance was more like ‘take the space back for yourself’ _ after all pretty much all graffiti is a form of advertising your presence anyway. What exactly would be the point of producing a film and then telling nobody about it?
